Now that I (Keith) have moved back to Charlotte I thought it would be a good contribution to let everyone know what the locals around Charlotte are saying about our Panthers. And by the way, I hope to see everyone Sunday at the18th Amendment!
It's not good. Not at all. The opinion is that the coaching is bland, unoriginal, too conservative and unimaginitive. It is almost as if Dan Henning never left. The defeat by Indianapolis was tough but they are a great team (who are now enjoying a 2-game losing streak, latey to - of all teams - the Chargers). The Tennessee loss was tough but the Atlanta loss last week has gotten Charlotte from talking about Vinny vs. Carr or Matt Moore to simply not talking. The wind has left the sails. There has been very little discussion about the upcoming Packers game. Green Bay is on a roll. The best the Panthers can show is Jon Beason and, at least last week, Rhyne Robinson. The offense is awful. If DeShaun Foster and Deangelo Williams can't find the hole that even the Quarterback points to (last week) and decides to run north/south, there's little we can do. Perhaps is they laid out lights or a "rabbit" like they use to guide in airplanes? DeShaun has been talked about quite a bit this week on another topic: who we need to unload. Among DeShaun there was mention of Kerry Colbert, Drew Carter, Dan Morgan, David Carr, Maake Kemoeatu and (believe it or not) John Kasay. There has also been calls for Fox and Hurney's heads if a draw pay is ever run again on 3rd and 26. Why not try it on 1st and 10? Granted, it get yards - which we badly need - but when we're averaging 3.5 yard per carry does it really make sense?
But think of it this way: the season isn't over yet. We still have a lot of football to play and if the Panthers can find some miracle inspiration to rally back and blow away the rest of their opponents then maybe some coaches and players are safe. But this is going to have to be something besides 3rd and 26 draw plays. Regardless, I hope to see everyone Sunday at the 18th Amendment. See you at 12:30!
