(Charlotte, NC) Weinke was under center, same results as Panthers lose to Giants 27 – 13 at Bank of America Stadium.
Am I the only one who might be thinking that Jake was having thumb problems before the Eagles game? Critical interceptions in the Redskins and Eagles games led to late game losses against NFC foes. Who could blame Jake if he said nothing? Take a look at the Bledsoe factor. Injured and spelled by Tom Brady in New England. Traded to the Cowboys, benched and replaced by Tony Romo. Could you blame him?
I’m just speculating but it wouldn’t be the first time a skill player didn’t take themselves out of a game. There was speculation about Jake dressing right up til game time. Weinke practiced with the 1st team all week and the Panthers cleared a roster spot to move Brett Basanez into the back-up spot.
New QB under center, same disappointing results. How bad is an interception? They are all bad but when they turn directly into opponent points they deserve a special category; Weinke had his share on Sunday.
Lot’s of ink has made it to paper over the last few weeks talking about the Panthers having their backs against the wall and ‘this’ game being a ‘must win’.
After this loss and looking at three remaining games, The Panthers have outlines of their backs imprinted against that wall. This has not been a good year for NFC teams. The NFC pales this year against the record of AFC teams. The wild card slots still appear to be up for grabs.
The Giants move into position to grab one after this win. Even the Falcons could be a toss up with their win today against the Bucaneers. With remaining games at home against the Steelers, at ATL and in the SuperDome against the Saints, there is still a shred of hope.
Drew Carter, heads-up young man, this game ball is yours. Congratulations on a stand-out performance. Drew was a 5th round pick out of Ohio State in the 2004 draft. He never really distinguished himself, as a result not much PT. Especially this year with #89 and #19 being strong 1 and 2 WR’s.
In 2005 Drew had 5 receptions in 3 games for 103 yards. Today, chalk up eight receptions for 144 yards with one TD.
